Cracked/Fractured Tooth
A fractured tooth does not heal on its own. If you have a cracked
tooth, seek dental care to determine the size of the crack and get
immediate treatment to save the tooth.
Causes of tooth cracks
You can get cracks from;
-
Accidents
-
Sports injuries
-
Biting/chewing hard food
-
Temperature changes (e.g drinking a cold drink immediately after
a hot one) -
Aging
Types of cracks
-
Cracks on the enamel. These are small and painless.
-
Cracks on a dental filling which may be painless in the
beginning. -
Cracks on the full length of the tooth. These require emergency
treatment. -
Cracks that start on the tooth and go below the gum line. At this
point, it becomes hard to save the tooth. -
Cracks that begin under the gums, going upwards. These have a
higher risk of infection.
We treat all types of cracks. Sometimes a dental crown is all you
need if the crack is small but if the crack has reached the gum line, we
may do a root canal. If it is beyond repair, we may need to extract the
tooth. Get treatment early to avoid complications. Call us for your
first appointment.
